General Futon Mattress Info

I guess this brief futon article is a little out of order if you've been following this site chronologically. Not to worry. This is just a brief futon mattress info type of article. And, what you need to know is not much. Well, not much probably because you already know what you need to know - it must be comfortable. This part is the simple one, now what?

Did you know that there are a variety of futon mattress choices to search through these days? Gone are the days of the foam wrapped in cotton and off you go to school types. Well, I shouldn't say that, those do still exist. And, they serve a great purpose. But, for more refined and modern tastes, you'll want to opt for a more comfortable option. This is when you can find a memory foam futon mattress. Yes, you read that right! Futons come with memory foam, inner coil springs, toppers - you name it. Just like a 'real' mattress.

I was thinking the same thing you probably are. Why not just get a traditional mattress? Well, for starters, cost. Most times, you will find that a traditionally manufactured mattress can cost much more than a futon mattress. Then, you also might find that the materials used in futons can be more healthy. See that 'can' be. It doesn't mean that they definitely are, so check your manufacturer. Then, the rest is just getting the right type of futon covers to make the mattress itself look good and be protected. This step is more important if you are using your futon - like most people do - for entertaining and guests.

Futon Mattress Frames

When it comes down to it, your choice of frames for your bed is almost as important as the futon mattress itself. Futons are not known for their luxurious toppers or memory foam (though, they might soon, there are many more styles now than you might think - another future article idea!), so the frame is important. After all, it might be the thing you see in your space more than the futons themselves.

Luckily, a futon mattress frame doesn't have to be simply a flat structure with wooden slats. Though, with the right wood choice and layout, this Zen style can be very appealing. You could also opt for a more functional futon bed frame by going with under-mattress storage and shelving options. These can be very organizationally handy and attractive as well. This will likely be a custom job, but not necessarily. You might also like to go with a metal frame. These are lighter in most cases, but can have a cheaper look and feel to them if you're not careful. The wooden frames are typically more durable and more handsome to look at. You will have options such as stain colors, paint colors and even armrest and other storage options in wood.

Futon Mattress | Futon Bed

Very similar terms, wouldn't you say? Yup. That's because they mean the exact same thing. The only difference you might find online is that the futon bed one sometimes includes a frame while the futon mattress search might yield just the mattress. We've discussed this topic before, but it bears a bit more emphasis as we've had some other discussions with people about the confusion.

In most cases, when you search for mattresses online, you will come up with many millions of hits. So, it is good to know how to refine your search to get your exact and desired type. Typing in futon mattress will definitely narrow down your search but you are still in the hundreds of thousands. Same thing with futon bed searches. Don't be alarmed. Like all internet searches, you quickly realize what is junk and what is useful. Also, remember that in most cases, your futon also comes with the frame - possibly a cheap one - but it will likely come with one. Stay tuned, we'll cover that topic soon.

A Futon Mattress For A Crib

Yes, there are futon mattresses that are made for cribs. It is the perfect solution I think. Preparing them for college from an early age?....what? No! Futons are great ways to get a wonderful night's sleep. What's more, if you are worried about toxic off-gassing from a mattress, then you might like to pursue this futon crib mattress thing a bit further.

There is no magic zero toxic problem from a futon mattress, don't be fooled. In fact, depending upon where they are made, you might end up in the same situation. So, to make sure that you get a good one, be clear to search for 'futon organic' or something along those lines. This will give you a better place to begin your natural mattress search.

A Futon Mattress For A Modern Home

Yup, you read that title right. You can get a futon mattress now that would remind you nothing of those thin, pancake pads that you probably had at one point in college. The trick is to know what to look for in the right type of mattress.

If you are looking for a new bed and you are more concerned with cost, futons are a great option. You can feel okay about it. You will actually be getting a good mattress for the price. In fact, in some cases, if you opt for the more extravagant futon bed, you may end up spending more than a cheap traditional mattress.

This is only because you can get a traditional twin mattress for relatively cheap. Whereas, you might be thinking about a new wrapped, inner coil spring futon style mattress. Yes, these do exist! It hardly defines what the old futon was all about, but it is a welcomed change. You can also find the new futons with other features like memory foam and custom bed frames.
